Master HALO Freefall Jump Wings – Regulation Size, Mirror Finish

Master HALO wings mark the Pararescuemen and Combat Rescue Officers who have gone beyond freefall qualification to become military freefall jumpmasters. This is the regulation-size Master Military Freefall Parachutist Badge in a polished mirror finish.

What the badge means in Pararescue

Freefall qualification has been required of Pararescuemen since about 1985, and it is part of the Combat Rescue Officer pipeline as well, with HALO and HAHO jumps from up to 25,000 feet. The star and laurel wreath above the wings mark the master level, earned by completing the Military Free-Fall Jumpmaster Course. A master badge identifies the PJ or CRO trusted to plan the jump, inspect the jumpers, and put a rescue team out the door at altitude.

The design

Each element has a meaning: a commando dagger for infiltration, a seven-cell ram-air canopy (the MT1-X, the military’s first standard freefall parachute), an arched tab for special operations, and wings for airborne capability. The badge was first authorized in 1994 and is awarded by the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army.
